Behind The Lens
As a photographer, the only thing I really want is to not only make beautiful pictures I love, but to make beautiful pictures that you can't live without. I want nothing more than to capture photographs in a way that not only shows true emotions, but also evokes true emotions. I am a student of experience. I have searched out as much knowledge as possible about all the aspects that go into making beautiful photographs. I take the time to study current trends, research techniques, and educate myself in whatever way I possibly can - all while making sure to stay true to my own style.
By day, I am a licensed and registered pediatric occupational therapist. I LOVE my job! I get a chance to work with some very special kids who take me on their journey in the education world. I get to sing ridiculous songs all day, play on the floor, finger paint, and listen to the stories of kids from 3-21. I am extremely lucky to be able to interact with and be a part of these kids' lives. My day job has helped me learn a great deal about human relationships, emotions, and patience.
So why photography? It started as a hobby. Right out of high school I bought my very first Minolta 35mm SLR. I ended up with a lot of negatives, an ultimately outdated piece of equipment, and a Bachelor's Degree in Health Science. Then came grad school. I took a lot of pictures with my point and shoot digital camera, but something continued to be lacking. So I researched DSLRs, finally chose one, and forged on to find out as much as I could. I started small, wondering if it was possible for this to be something more than a hobby, photographing nieces and nephew. Then I roped in an old friend and convinced her to let her baby pee on me- I mean, let me have the privilege of shooting his newborn photos. I have met wonderful people on this journey, and and am looking for those who want to join the Kate Jacobs Photography family. The best way to get to know what I can do is to search through my galleries, and of course be sure to contact me with whatever your needs or questions may be!
Techie business for those that care: I shoot with a full-frame Nikon DSLR. I have a variety of Nikkor & Tamron lenses, both primes and zooms. I love to shoot natural light, but when that isn't working out, I have a couple of Nikon speedlights.
I look forward to hearing from you!
